There are various ways to boost your confidence.
Confidence is that innate gut feeling that propels action and execution. If you think you can do it, then you most definitely can, and if you think you cannot do it, then you most probably will not try. Whatever you tell yourself, do inherently becomes the range and limit of your ability. Be that as it may, here are quick ways to boost your confidence
Re-define your perception of confidence
You may think that confidence is walking into work head high, sleeves rolled, and having it all figured out. If that is so, then you need to reframe your perception of confidence.
Confidence is not synonymous with absolute certainty, it is the understanding that you, you may not have the answers to something, but can always figure it out along the way and get started.
It is about knowing that it is okay to not have it all figured out and having the willingness to ask for help where you need it.
It is about building trusting relationships, accepting feedback and trying new things, as suggested by Kristin Taylor in her book, “remind”.
She says that these activities are the foundation to boost confident employees in the workplace.
Find meaning in your work
You are not at your place of work by accident or incident. Sometimes it is difficult to see the meaning of what you do, especially when you feel stuck or when your work is unappreciated or unrecognized. Finding meaning in your work keeps you internally motivated and boosts your confidence while at it. Think about the impact your work has directly or indirectly on the lives of those around you.
Think about what difference you make for your internal and external customers. Think about the part you play at the workplace. The organization is a supra system which cannot stand without the cooperation of individual systems, and you are one system, devoid of which the entire supra system collapses. That is how important you are, and that is the meaning of your work.
Set and achieve reasonable goals
Very few can compare to that feeling when you deliberate to do something, and then you achieve it. It is utmost reassuring and absolutely satisfying to set a goal and achieve it. This boosts your confidence in astronomical proportions, and in order to be more confident, achieve more goals. However, your goals need to be reasonable. Do not set your goals too high or too low.
The thing is not that we set our goals too high and miss, but that we set them too low and hit.
Set reasonable goals and split them up into steps, then work on them one at a time. This way, it is certain to celebrate small accomplishments, and it causes you to see how your goals become more achievable.
Boost your knowledge
The surest way to boost your confidence is by upskilling or reskilling. Nothing gives more confidence than mastery. Uncertainty is the biggest impediment of confidence. Read about the latest research to enhance your knowledge and understanding. Knowing how and why certain practices and processes work boosts confidence in your ability to do them.
Understand and comprehend your limitations
To build self- confidence, you need to be aware of what your limiting factors are and having the willingness, discipline and humility to work on them.
“You cannot use the same mind that created problems to find solutions”-Albert Einstein.
Confidence is a mindset, and if you have limitations in your mindset, then you cannot discern and achieve it. Contemplate on what pulls and holds you down and start working on it. Seek new perspectives by talking to someone that you trust, ask those whose confidence you admire, and you are sure to learn a thing or two. The first step towards solving a problem is acknowledging that there is one.
